Moticont has added the SDLM-016-032-01-01-M (Metric) Direct Drive Linear Motor with an integrated encoder and temperature sensor to their SDLM Series of Metric and Imperial dimensioned high precision linear actuators. This motor is the smallest of the series of linear motors featuring: Zero backlash, zero cogging, high acceleration, high speed, high resolution, and long life. Also known as an electric cylinder, this compact direct drive linear motor is just 15.9mm (0.625") in diameter and 31.8mm (1.25") long. Protected inside the motor housing, a 1.25 micron resolution linear quadrature encoder directly connected to the shaft provides the greatest possible accuracy with zero backlash. Additionally, monitoring the temperature from the internal temperature sensor optimizes highest possible throughput. This new SDLM-016-032-01-01-M direct drive motion control linear motor has a stroke length of 6.35mm (0.250"), a continuous force rating of 1.14N (4.1oz), peak force of 3.61N (13.0oz), and 1.08N/A (3.9oz/A) Force Constant. This non-commutated, low inertia, direct drive servo motor has quiet long life, plain linear bearings and connections are easily made via a flex cable terminated in a 10-pin female connector. These miniature linear servo motors are ideal for: Medical devices (e.g. infusion pumps, prosthetic devices, and surgical robots), automotive and consumer products, aerospace (e.g. aircraft, drones, satellites, and rockets), robotics and industrial automation, and laboratory applications (e.g. microscope stages, pipetting, and sampling). Direct coupling of the load or stage to non-rotating shaft eliminates backlash and allows for smooth motion.  Both ends of the actuator have M1.6X0.35, 0.10 deep threaded mounting holes for easy integration into new and existing applications. Each end of the 2mm (0.07") diameter shaft has an M2X0.4 male threads with a length of 3.2mm (0.13"). The SDLM-016-032-01-01-M Direct Drive Linear Actuator is also available with a matching servo controller.
